On this website is the most comprehensive information available regarding coursework, programs, and continued innovations across our seven high school campuses.  The Onslow County Schools High School Course Selection Guide has been designed to ensure students and parents are aware of the varied avenues available for completion of the State of North Carolina Graduation Requirements, as well as course offerings that will meet areas of interest and future goals of high school students in our system.  This guide includes opportunities open to students for the upcoming school year, with additional innovative programs and projects being investigated for future implementation across the system.  We continue to determine areas where we may be able to enhance the Future Ready concept presented by the State of North Carolina, as well as the mission of Onslow County Schools.

While this is a new registration process in terms of information, the idea of meeting the needs for students to be ready for college or the workplace is not new.   Onslow County Schools' leadership and staff remain dedicated to this mission and the commitment that this will be achieved in a successful manner with the vision of Excellence in Education at the forefront.

North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS)

The NCVPS provides courses that students are unable to take at their local school and those that augment a student’s local school’s program of study.  For example, a student may wish to take an AP course the local school does not offer. Another student may want to complete the remaining requirement for graduation this semester yet the course needed at the student’s school is already full this semester. Another student may be home bound or hospital bound due to illness or injury and wish to remain on schedule to graduate on time. Yet another student may wish to graduate from high school in three years.

All courses will be taught by a certified teacher in the subject certified to teach in North Carolina. NCVPS will award final credit. That credit will be transferred back to the school for placement on the student’s transcript.

Students (and their parents/guardians) interested in enrolling in an online course should become familiar with the information and course catalog found on the NCVPS website: www.ncvps.org.  An eLearning (online) environment requires that students be personally responsible in terms of meeting deadlines, be independently motivated, possess proficient reading, writing and computer skills and have an organized approach to study.

Students must be enrolled in a minimum of two courses on an Onslow County School System campus in order to be eligible to enroll in an NCVPS course.

Contact a school counselor for enrollment policies and procedures.  Administrative approval is required prior to enrollment in NCVPS courses.

Once the online course is completed, the student receives credit on his/her school transcript. Students interested in NCVPS must meet all eligibility requirements and obtain administrative approval. Please access further information through the following website.

North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM)

The Onslow County School System is in preliminary discussion with the NCSSM for offering our students a selection of Interactive Video-Conference (IVC) courses provided by the NCSSM.  The IVC are advanced opportunities in mathematics, science, humanities and supplement the school offerings.  Further information will be made available soon.

Both of these eLearning opportunities are tuition-free to North Carolina public school students.
